Gushue's Pond Park
Gushue's Pond Park is located approximately 40 minutes west, of St. John's, along the Trans Canada Highway. The park, comprised 179 hectares, is an ideal place to enjoy camping in the great outdoors or just visit for the day.
From Gushue's Pond Park you are 15 min from Bay Roberts with shopping malls, fast food chains ,and everyone's favourite coffee shop ,the park is centrally located so you can visit the tourist attractions around the Avalon Peninsula. On day adventures from the park you can drive the Baccalieu Trail and visit the Hearts Content cable station, or take the Cape Shore Trail and see the Cape St. Mary's Ecological Reserve; another day you can tour the Irish Loop Drive and see the light house at Cape Race and experience the Irish dialect and culture . You can also explore the Cape Spear Drive and stand on the most easterly point on the North American continent returning to the seclusion and comfort of your RV in Gushue's Pond Park each evening.
Area History
The area was logged in the late 1800's by a man named Gushue from Bacon Cove, Conception Bay. Mr. Gushue cut timber and built a schooner for use in Labrador fishery. Gushue's Pond and the park are named after him. Gushue's Pond Park was first opened to the public in June 1961.
Park Activities
Camping
The park contains 183 campsites which includes 55 unserviced,87 serviced, 31 overflow and 10 tent sites , each with a picnic table, garbage can, fireplace and space for your vehicle. Drinking water taps, laundromat and comfort station are conveniently located in the park. Firewood is also available.
We encourage recycling
To help keep our park a cleaner more greener park. Recycling containers are placed on each site all through out the park .All funds received from recycling are used to fund children's activities in the park.
Picnicing
The picnic or day-use area is equipped with a parking lot, picnic table and garbage containers.
Swimming
There is a swimming area in the day-use section of the park. Caution the swimming area is unsupervised. Life saving equipment is located in a conspicuous place on the beach.
Fishing
Trout fishing is popular both in the park and surrounding area. For more information see park staff or refer to the provincial fishing and hunting guide.
Disposal Station
Facilities are located off the main entrance road, near the check point. The park aslo offers on site black water dumping for a small fee.
Winter Recreation
Winter camping opportunities are provided at the park, but you must provide your own water and carry out your garbage.
